Woman Charged with Felony for Spanking
LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- A western Wisconsin woman, accused of spanking a child with a belt, has been charged with felony child abuse.
A criminal complaint filed Tuesday in La Crosse County says the 7-year-old boy told authorities that he was whipped with a black leather belt eight times after he misplaced a video game during a Super Bowl party.
The complaint says 30-year-old Gloria Thompson admitted striking the child. Thompson told investigators she was trying to teach him a lesson. The video game was later found.
The La Crosse Tribune reports police got involved after the child complained to a teacher about a bruised back.
