Monday Crashes Could Preview Tuesday ProblemsBy Melissa McCrady with Jay SorgiClick "traffic" link for current freeway speeds and conditions. MILWAUKEE - If Monday morning's rush hour is any indication, we are in for a real mess Tuesday morning. The light snow that fell over part of the area triggered a whole string of accidents. If you took the interstate to work this morning, chances are you sat in traffic. It was slow going across much of Southeastern Wisconsin. A small layer of snow turned much of metro Milwaukee's interstates into one big parking lot. "Absolutely miserable," said Cal Korpela, who took the slow road to work today. "The highways are five to ten miles per hour." About a dozen accidents consumed the freeways. One overturned car at I-94 near Calhoun Road added an extra 30 minutes to the morning commute. "I can't explain it," said Diane Reid, who was driving in Milwaukee. "I drove slow. People just aren't being as cautious as they should be." There were three separate crashes at I-94 and Rawson Avenue in the southern part of Milwaukee County. It backed up traffic for miles. Korpela made his co-workers wait even longer to say this ahead of tonight's snow storm. "I think it will be slipperier. People better slow down then." |
