Milwaukee-Area Catholics Respond to Listecki

WHITEFISH BAY - The installation of Jerome Listecki as Milwaukee's next Archbishop is the talk of the Catholic community.

Many parishioners at St. Monica's Parish in Whitefish Bay say they're looking forward to having him as their new shepherd.

Parishioners there are welcoming Archbishop-Designate Listecki with open arms.

"We're sorry to see Archbishop (Timothy) Dolan leave, but we're excited to have Bishop Listecki come in and lead us into the new year," said Tom Eck, a parishioner at St. Monica's.

Still, even some of Listecki's biggest fans have a few reservations.

"My concern is with the sex abuse thing, that he takes care of things as Dolan used to do and that things get resolved," said Debra Whitcomb.

Martha Flaherty is hoping he helps open school doors to kids with special needs, something she is very passionate about.

"Dolan was behind that all the say, so I just hope that the new Archbishop will be equally as open to opening more doors in Catholic schools."

Milwaukee-area Catholics can't help compare our new leader to his predecessor.

"There is no more charismatic guy than Archbishop Dolan, so they are big footsteps."
