Preparing For Upper Midwest's First Major Snowstorm

By WTMJ News Team

TODAY'S TMJ4 HD Reporter Diane Pathieu is on Milwaukee's East Side checking out conditions this morning.  The word so far, not bad.  Snow is covering some cars, but the roads are still easily passable.

But today isn't the day we're worried about.  Tuesday into Wednesday could bring a major storm.  That has people getting ready.

Customers at the Ace Hardware in Delafield Sunday seemed more interested in Christmas lights and decorations than salt, shovels or snow blowers.

Manager Michael Tarantino forecasts that could change quickly this week, with the Upper Midwest's first major snowstorm of the season on the way.

"After about six inches of snow, all of our snow blowers will be gone," he predicted.

Hue Schlegel eyed a new machine that would make clearing the driveway easier. For now, he settled for replacement parts.

"Getting my snow blower all tuned up," Schlegel said. "I'm looking to be prepared for tonight's snow."

At a hardware store in Glendale, Casey Flanagan bought a window insulation kit for his toddler's room.

"Our upstairs gets really cold in the winter," he said. "This helps us warm her room up and hopefully keep the energy costs down."

After a mild November, southern Wisconsin may be in for a real dose of December.

"They're predicting a lot of snow," said Earl Holter, who bought a spark plug for his snow blower. "We'll have to wait and see."

Meteorologists predicted significant accumulating snow across southern Wisconsin Tuesday night and Wednesday. Snowfall greater than six inches is considered very probable with possibly as much as a foot in some areas.
