Off Duty Officer Killed in Jefferson Shooting
JEFFERSON - An off duty Town of Oconomowoc police officer and a man, thought to be her boyfriend, were both shot and killed outside a tavern in Jefferson early Sunday.
Officer Jennifer Luick, 37, died shortly after the shooting at Fort Memorial Hospital in Fort Atkinson.
The man who was shot, died several hours later at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. He was identified as 40-year-old Gregg Peters. A Web tribute page says he was Luick's boyfriend.
The shootings took place just after 1 a.m. in the parking lot outside the Rock Bottom Saloon and Eatery on Milwaukee Street in downtown Jefferson.
Authorities arrested a suspect about 90 minutes later.
The Jefferson Daily Union said the 24-year-old suspect, Andrew Wirth was arrested by Fort Atkinson officers who were going to the suspect's home, but found his vehicle along the way there and stopped him.
"This kind of thing doesn't happen here," Jefferson Mayor Gary Myers told Newsradio 620 WTMJ. "The bar is a popular location. It's never had any significant trouble. (The shooting) is one of those tragic things that happens."
The shooting is being investigated by the Jefferson Police Department.
Lulick was a 6-year veteran of the Town of Oconomowoc Police Department.
