Swine Flu Concerns Continue
WEST ALLIS, Wis – Health leaders are offering sympathy to the family of the most recent swine flu victim as people in other communities line up for vaccines.
“When H1N1 hits home and one of our residents passes from H1N1, it does hit home,” said Terry Brandenburg of the West Allis Health Department. “Certainly our sympathies go out to the family.”
The West Allis Health Department will not reveal any information about the patient who died and turned down requests to discuss the patient’s age range.
In Glendale, people lined up at the Bavarian Inn for swine flu vaccine. It was a combined clinic of the North Shore and Shorewood/Whitefish Bay Health Departments. There were 4,000 swine flu vaccine doses available and authorities expected that to more than cover the number of doses administered at the clinic.
Health leaders in Glendale say there are concerns swine flu may surge again after the holidays.
“A lot of us are waiting to see what happens after the hoildays, when people are traveling and together in confined spaces again," said North Shore Health Officer Jane Peterson.
One mom who lined up for a swine flu vaccine is Anneliese Dickman. She said she wanted to make sure her daughter got the vaccine. “Well, she's in daycare and it's going around. And we're traveling for the holidays so she'll be on an airplane,” Dickman explained.
