Second Person Charged in Voter Bribe Case
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A second person is charged at Milwaukee on accusations of taking part in a scheme to pay people to vote for Alderman Michael McGee in an April third recall election.
48-year-old Khadijah Anwar was charged today by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office with one count of election bribery. She's accused of telling an undercover officer March 15th that an incentive payment of five dollars or more was available to people who cast absentee ballots at City Hall for McGee. She's the second person charged as a result of an investigation into illegal conduct during the recall campaign, which McGee won. Garrett L. Huff was charged Thursday with conspiracy to commit election bribery. The complaint said he was believed to be an uncle of McGee. The 37-year-old McGee remains in the county jail on separate federal and state charges. Federal prosecutors charged McGee with bribery and extortion, alleging he extorted money from business owners in his district in exchange for favorable treatment on licensing matters. McGee was accused in state court of planning with two others to physically attack a man suspected of burglarizing the home of one of the other two defendants. Those charges accuse McGee of solicitation to commit substantial battery and conspiracy to commit substantial battery. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. |
