Wauwatosa Baby Abandoner Charged

By Jodi Becker

Prosecutors in Milwaukee County have charged a woman from Wauwatosa with felony child abandonment.  Diandra Kroening could be sentenced to as many as 10 years in prison if she's convicted.

Prosecutors allege in their criminal complaint that Kroening went to a friend's house in Wauwatosa Monday.  The friend told cops she asked Kroening to watch her 10-month old daughter for a few minutes so she could shower and Kroening agreed.  When the mom came back 20 minutes later she says Kroening was gone.  So were the baby and the child's pink diaper bag.

The mother told officers she did not give Kroening permission to take her daughter anywhere.  The baby's grandmother has legal custody of the girl because the mother's not able to properly care for the infant.  The criminal complaint says the baby's grandmother also told officers she did not OK the adventure.  The grandmother added that Kroening is not even allowed on the property.

Police got a 911 call around 10pm Monday.  A couple in West Allis said they spotted someone leave a baby and pink Winnie The Pooh diaper bag on their front lawn and then take off.

The child is OK.
