Bucher Accuses Wife, Police Chief Of Ongoing AffairBy Michael GeorgeWAUKESHA- Paul Bucher, former Waukesha County District Attorney, has filed for divorce for a second time from his wife, journalist and UWM lecturer Jessica McBride. Bucher is also talking publicly about his wife’s affair with Milwaukee police chief Edward Flynn, which Bucher claims went on for months even after the affair became public. Bucher made the claims in an interview with Jon Byman of NewsRadio 620 WMTJ.
Chief Flynn denies the affair continued after his admission in June, those he admits to maintaining contact with McBride.
Bucher claims he has proof that a sexual relationship between McBride and Flynn continued for months after news of the relationship broke in June.
“I have evidence to show that during the months of July and August, there was significant continual contact between the chief and my wife, some of it of a sexual nature, where he continually pursued her and told her he loved her,” Bucher said.
Bucher even claims he confronted Flynn about the affair by phone.
“He was somewhat taken aback. I asked him if he thought sexual contact and intercourse with my wife on September 14 was conducive to trying to solve my marriage problems. He indicated it was not,” Bucher said.
Bucher says he believes both his wife and Chief Flynn are culpable for the alleged affair. But he says Flynn owes him an apology for damaging his marriage.
“I’m not trying to make this a soap opera. It’s a private issue between family, and I wanted to keep it that way, but it became public in May. The chief made it public by admitting to the affair,” Bucher said.
“I understand that they’re indicating that there’s nothing new here, and that I’m crazy and some nutcase husband who has gone off the deep end. That’s a lie. This happened, he knows it happened,” Bucher added.
Bucher also questioned Flynn’s judgment, morals, and character as police chief, pointing to Chief Flynn’s public apology about the affair in June. Bucher addressed nearly all of his criticism at Flynn, rather than his wife.
“I’m not saying she has no culpability here, ok. But he’s 62. He’s a grandfather. So whether he can lead this department or not I’ll leave to others in that position,” Bucher said.
Jessica McBride did not return repeated attempts to contact her on Thursday.
Police Chief Edward Flynn did release a statement on Thursday evening, reading, “I regret that Mr. Bucher genuinely believes that I continued an extra-marital affair with his wife. I did not.
I cannot deny that she and I have communicated and that we met once. Since my statement in June, there has not been, nor is there, an ongoing affair.
I will not be drawn further into a public discussion about a pending divorce proceeding.”
