Daycare Worker Accused of Heinous CrimeBy Shelley Walcott
MUSKEGO - A 21-year-old daycare worker is accused of a heinous crime. Investigators say an 11-month old child suffered serious injuries while in Anna Roddy's care at St. Paul's School of Early Learning in Muskego --- injuries consistent with sexual assault. "Horrified. I'm not sure of a better word," said daycare administrator Steven Bremer. According to the criminal complaint the 11-month-old girl was the first one dropped off at the daycare last Thursday morning. When her mother picked her up, a daycare worker told her the child had "a rough afternoon" and that she was "crying, inconsolable, and had a bloody nose." The girl's father discovered a bloody diaper later that afternoon. "One of our workers has admitted to police of causing injury to a child and not reporting it," said Bremer. Court documents say there was a "deep internal tear" to the child's vaginal area. Roddy has been charged with second degree reckless endangerment, a felony, and child neglect, a misdemeanor. A second daycare worker is also being investigated for not reporting the incident. Reporter Shelley Walcott asked Bremer what he had to say to other parents at the daycare. He replied, "Things are in place. I mean, our risk management procedure. We continue to make this a safe environment." Both daycare workers have been placed on unpaid leave, pending the outcome of this investigation. The 11-month old girl required surgery on her injury. Bremer says the daycare has not been in touch with the child's parents, preferring to respect their privacy. |
