Unlike 2008, Milwaukee Christmas Tree Lowered Safely
Milwaukee's Christmas Tree is heading downtown to be lit - and unlike 2008, it's in one piece.
Crews harvested and used a crane to remove the tree from its location near the corner of 78th and West Burleigh Streets in Milwaukee.
The crane safely brought the tree onto a flat bed to be delivered downtown.
"I love it," said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, who was there for the lowering of the tree from its original perch.
"It's a beautiful, well shaped tree. The owner loves this tree. She got it as a gift when she moved here in 1972. It's a 35-foot Colorado Blue Spruce. We'll be lighting it for the holiday season on December 19th."
In 2008, with a TODAY'S TMJ4 HD live reporter on the scene, the tree was lowered from its standing position - and snapped in half.
The tree had to be repaired before being lit in its downtown location.
