Wisconsin Assemblywoman's Son Survives Ft. Hood Shooting
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin state Rep. Kitty Rhoades of Hudson received a text message from her son stationed at Fort Hood in Texas telling her he had survived a shooting there.
Rhoades got the message from her 27-year-old son, Army Cpt. Mike Rhoades, at 2:18 p.m. Thursday. The message told her to check the news and said, "I'm ok .. we have a gunman on the loose."
The U.S. Army says 13 people have been killed and 30 wounded in a shooting rampage on the base.
Rhoades says she wrote a message back to her son telling him to stay under his desk. She says she's glad she got the message from him before she had heard anything about the shootings.
