Random Lake Mom Hears from Injured Daughter at Fort Hood
RANDOM LAKE - A Sheboygan County woman says her daughter was shot in the stomach at Fort Hood, Texas, but is in stable condition at a Texas hospital.
Lisa Pfund says her daughter, 19-year-old Amber Bahr, was shot during an attack that left 13 people dead and 30 wounded at the Army base.
After five frustrating hours, Lisa got the call she had been waiting for on Thursday night. "So you got shot in the back! Are you OK," Lisa asked her daughter.
"Are you going to come home? Do you want me to come down there? Lisa asked.
But waiting for that call was unbearable.
"Call, call call! It's all I can do," Lisa pleaded earlier in the evening.
Lisa worked the phone Thursday afternoon calling every hospital near Fort Hood.
Amber's sister Erika got the original call from an ER doctor that Amber had been shot.
"She told us she was in stable condition and on a lot of pain killers," Erika explained.
Lisa still doesn't know if the young Army nutritionist will need surgery.
"(The) CAT scans haven't come back," said Lisa. "She may have a bullet in her back. She might have to have surgery."
The phone call from Amber was all too brief but a huge relief for the worried mom.
"I don't want to let you go because I don't know when I will talk to you again. I love you baby girl," Lisa told her daughter as she hung up the phone.
Amber posted three words on her Facebook page late Thursday that summed up everything: "I am OK!"
There are still a lot of questions for the family. They don't have any of the details of how Amber got shot or when they will get to see her.
Pfund said her daughter joined the Army Reserves when she was 17 and she last saw her in May. She was unsure of Amber's rank or unit.
