Packers-Lions: Our Experts Predict

Next game: Sunday, October 18th vs. Detroit
Packers Gameday now on Newsradio 620 WTMJ, a live blog here and coverage on Live at 5 and 10 on TODAY'S TMJ4 HD

The bye week is done.

The Packers are back in action today.

Returning to Lambeau Field: the Lions, who haven't won in the land of cheese since 1991.

Will that change or does Green Bay's domination continue?

Passing game.
The Lions have one of the worst pass defenses in the league (15 TD's, opposing QB's have an average rating of 119.7)  If Rodgers is protected (thank you, Chad Clifton), and receivers hang on to the ball, they should put up a lot of points.

Matthew Stafford or Daunte Culpepper?
Doesn't matter.  Just get to them and make something happen.  Both are prone to INT's and fumbles.

Green Bay 31,
Detroit 13.
After stopping Adrian Peterson, they should be able to contain Kevin Smith (3.1 yards per carry).  The Lions have played pretty well in three of their four losses, but my hunch is, they're due for a blowout.

The line.
I'm not sure how much (if any) of Mark Tauscher we'll see, but the key to this offense for the next few weeks will be developing consistently strong O-line play.

Calvin Johnson.
Calvin Johnson is incredibly dangerous and is Detroit's best weapon.  Stop him and the Packers should keep Detroit under 17 points.

Late note: Calvin Johnson is not expected to play today.

Green Bay 31,
Detroit 14.
Packers get back on track and win this one.

Is a healthier line a better one?
Packers insider Bill Scott made a great point to us earlier this week - just because Chad Clifton is back in the lineup doesn't automatically improve.  They weren't great this season with him before his injury.  They all, Clifton included, have to improve.  Today's a great day to start.

Doing what you do should be enough - especially without Calvin Johnson.
Detroit's offense is so inept outside of the all-universe receiver, that this should be a day to work on the fundamentals of this defense.  It got destroyed against Minnesota.  It needs a feel-good day, and should have one.

Green Bay 31, Detroit 21.
Something scares me about this game.  Last year, it took the Packers four quarters to put the worst team in NFL history away.  They're improved.  I don't know how improved the Packers are compared to last year, especially with their offensive line issues.  I'm sadly thinking close game with a clinching score late.
