Thousands of Marijuana Plants Discovered
SHAWANO, Wis. (AP) -- Drug agents say it's one of the largest organized drug grows in Wisconsin.
Nearly 80 law enforcement officials from nine agencies eradicated about 8,000 marijuana plants from 12 grow sites in the Navarino Wildlife Area in eastern Wisconsin Tuesday.
Authorities say they dismantled four camp and work sites and processed them for evidence.
Shawano County Sheriff Randall Wright said the growing operation had been abandoned for some time and that there was a substantial amount of marijuana harvested before law enforcement learned about it.
Shawano, Waupaca and Oconto sheriff's departments joined federal and police agencies in the eradication operation.
