Flu Spreading in Palmyra-Eagle SchoolsBy Mick TreveyPALMYRA, Wis - One in ten students is now sick with flu-like symptoms at the Palmyra-Eagle High School and Middle School. That's a concern because in the nearby Kettle Moraine School District, flu-like symptoms affected one in five students earlier this week. Palmyra-Eagle mom Denise Lovell had to pick up her daughter during the school day because of symptoms. "She said it hit her about 4th hour," said Lovell. "She just felt like her back was killing her and she felt fevered and she was coughing more. and it was that fast." Lovell is now spraying her home with disinfectant and encouraging her family to use hand sanitizer. Some Wisconsin school districts have closed for flu-like illness including the Ashwaubenon School District near Green Bay. In Ashwaubenon, about three in ten students showed symptoms. In the Kettle Moraine district, the superintendent said attendance improved from earlier this week. In the Palmyra-Eagle district, parents said they hoped a school closure would not happen. "If too many kids get sick, they may have to shut the school down," said grandfather Don Bones. The superintendent of the Palmyra-Eagle School District refused repeated requests for an interview but said there are no plans to close the schools.
