Top 9th

5:10 p.m.  3 Out
Morales vs. Escobar
Strike three looking ends my blogging this year for the Brewers.  Congrats to the Rockies who get a wildcard berth.

5:07 p.m.  2 Out, Runner on 2nd
Colorado 9, Milwaukee 2
Morales vs. Cameron
A long double scores Fielder!  Still alive.

5:06 p.m.  2 Out, Runner on 1st
Morales vs. McGehee
Spillborghs has about 350 putouts today.

Tweet question of the day:
If you could play Doug Melvin, what changes would you make to the Brew Crew for 2010?

Response: @dw219
"'10 Brew Crew: Mgr Sveum, Hitting Coach Cooper or Yount, Pitching Coach Maddux (need him back)"

O'Blog: At Least We're Not The Cubs....

5:03 p.m.  1 Out, Runner on 1st
Morales vs. Fielder
Chasing .300, he goes to center for a single.

4:59 p.m.  1 Out
Morales vs. Braun
An 8-run inning would be nice.  Uh, not gonna happen.  Bouncer to short.

Bottom 8th

4:57 p.m.  3 Out
Coffey vs. Helton
Bouncer to 3rd and the inning thankfully ends.

4:55 p.m.  2 Out, Runners on 1st and 3rd
Coffey vs. Spillborghs
When you give a guy six at-bats in one game, it ain't good.  This one won't be so successful, though.  K looking.

4:51 p.m.  1 Out, Runners on 1st and 3rd
Coffey vs. Fowler
Escobar made a HECK of a diving stop to get the force, but Fowler's too fast for the throw.

4:46 p.m.  Runner on 1st and 2nd
Smith vs. Young, Jr.
The bouncer went off Smith in the face.  OOOOOOCH.    Trainers come out with plastic gloves.  Blood involved.  Outta here.

4:44 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Smith vs. Barmas
A soft fly to right-center falls more softly than a piece of tollet paper with that teddy bear spokesman.

4:43 p.m.
Colorado 9, Milwaukee 1
Smith vs. Hawpe
As Ueck put it, the golden sombrero is adios.  HR.

4:39 p.m.  Runner on 2nd
Smith vs. Iannetta
Ueck was wandering around the stadium to cash in some sort of coupon, making Cory take over the top of the 8th.  He says he wanted a look-alike of Dinger the Dinosaur, the Rockies' mascot.

What would a Rockies' mascot more appropriately be?

Bomb to deep right...it's off the wall with a double.

Top 8th

4:37 p.m.  3 Out
Cook vs. Gerut
This time, they complete the twin-killing.  The Brewers REALLY wanted to make a DP, didn't they.

4:36 p.m.  1 Out, Runner on 1st
Cook vs. Lopez
A wild throw prevents a double play, and Lopez gets the FC.  Equal to a strikeout.

4:34 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Cook vs. Gamel
They're staying with Cook, hopefully - for their sake - getting nine out of him.  He walks the rookie.

Bottom 7th Inning

4:30 p.m.  3 Out
Stetter vs. Atkins
The diet inventor...well, maybe not...grounds to Fielder unassisted.

4:30 p.m.  2 Out, Runner on 1st
Stetter vs. Tulowitzki
An inside pitch nearly hits Tulowitski...wait, it did.  Oh, he's limpin'.

4:28 p.m.  2 Out
Stetter vs. Helton
McGehee with textbook coverage at 3rd.

4:25 p.m.  1 Out
Stetter vs. Spillborghs
Bomb to left, but the winds keep it in the house.  Most nights, it's a homer.

Top 7th Inning

4:22 p.m.  3 Out
Cook vs. Kendall
Cory is spouting poetic about a cool road trip to Colorado.  Not a bad idea.

Short hopper to short kills the Brewers chance.

4:21 p.m.  2 Out, Runner on 3rd
Cook vs. Escobar
Grounder to 2nd advances Cammy.  Get him across the plate, maybe, one last time in a Brewers uni.

4:20 p.m.  1 Out, Runner on 2nd
Cook vs. Cameron
At LAST...an extra base hit on Cook.  This guy has been dealing...credit Cammy for what might be his last extra-base hit in a Brew Crew uniform.

4:18 p.m.  1 Out
Cook vs. McGehee
Grounder to short.  This is not a re-post.

Bottom 6th Inning

4:16 p.m.  3 Out
Axford vs. Fowler
A bouncer to Prince ends another pathetic pitching display...to give up a four-pitch walk to a pitcher.

4:14 p.m.  2 Out, Bases Loaded
Colorado 7, Milwaukee 1
Axford vs. Cook
What?  A 3-0 count on the pitcher?  Come on...NO!  Four pitches to a pitcher?  My goodness.

4:13 p.m.  2 Out, Bases Loaded
Axford vs. Barmas
Intentional K.  Dumb not to do it with Cook coming up.

4:11 p.m.  2 Out, Runners on 2nd and 3rd
Axford vs. Hawpe
On a 3-2 count, K'd looking!  4th K on Hawpe.  Ueck: "the hat trick, now the sombrero."

4:08 p.m.  1 Out, Runners on 2nd and 3rd
Axford vs. Iannetta
With Chris Smith now working in the bullpen, it's a steal for Helton on a K.

4:07 p.m.  Runners on 1st and 3rd
Colorado 6, Milwaukee 1
Axford vs. Atkins
About 10 degrees more to the right, same result.  Ugh.

4:06 p.m.  Runners on 1st and 2nd
Axford vs. Tulowitzki
Another liner to left center.  This one about 10 degrees to the right, if my eyeballs and geometry lessons from Mr. Basham match up well.

4:02 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Axford vs. Helton
They're leaving Axford in, I guess.  He dribbles one like Basketball Jones past Casey McGehee.  Hopefully he doesn't wear an afro like Cheech and Chong did.

Top 6th Inning

4:00 p.m.  3 Out
Cook vs. Fielder
Oh-by-the-way flyout to left.

3:58 p.m.  2 Out
Colorado 5, Milwaukee 1
Cook vs. Braun
BOMB TO LEFT AND DEEP!  "Get up, get up...."

3:57 p.m.  2 Out
Cook vs. Gerut
Jiminy Christmas.  Gerut can't catch a break on Atkins, either.

3:55 p.m.  1 Out
Cook vs. Lopez
Diving stab by Atkins at 3rd.  HECK of a play.  My goodness....is this a bunch of Brooks Robinson's on this team?

Bottom 5th Inning

3:51 p.m.  3 Our
Axford vs. Spillborghs
I'm still so miffed at Denver baseball fans.  The last game of a season where they're fighting for a playoff spot, and a bunch of SECTIONS of seats aren't even filled.  That wouldn't happen at Miller Park.

Check swing bouncer to Axford...ining thankfully over.

3:49 p.m.  2 Out, Runner on 2nd
Axford vs. Fowler
An easy bouncer to Lopez at 2nd.  Solid as a Brew....

3:48 p.m.  1 Out, Runner on 2nd
Axford vs. Cook
Cook bunted it like I would have back in the day in pee wee ball and it's an easy out on a pop-up.  Never bunt upward like he did.

3:45 p.m.  Runner on 2nd
Axford vs. Barmes
Axford and Simpson - didn't they do "Solid...Solid as a Rock?"  No, that's Ashford.  Oh well...a bomb over Braun's head - he misplayed it badly - and it's a double.  Rather, an error, or what should be.

Top 5th Inning

3:43 p.m.  3 Out
Cook vs. Patterson
First pitch swing and a heck of a running catch by Spillborghs, who ran the wrong direction but responded.

3:42 p.m.  2 Out
Cook vs. Kendall
Tulowitzki is very busy at short today.

3:41 p.m.  1 Out
Cook vs. Escobar
Helton digs out a low throw like that aforementioned Tostito's Scooper and gets the out from short.

Bottom 4th Inning

3:38 p.m.  3 Out
McClung vs. Hawpe
At least he K's this dude - K'ing the side.  Great job of digging deep.

3:34 p.m.  2 Out, Runners on 1st and 2nd
McClung vs. Iannetta
2-2 count...make it a 3-2 count...make it a walk.  Ugh.

3:31 p.m.  2 Out, Runner on 1st
McClung vs. Atkins
HECK of a slider gets Atkins looking stupefied.  I just wanted the word stupefied to get in the blog once this year.

3:30 p.m.  1 Out, Runner on 1st
McClung vs. Tulowitzki
The shortstop gets on with a four-pitch walk.  Ugh.

3:28 p.m.  1 Out
McClung vs. Helton
The tall red-head from West Virginia (if my memory is correct) gets a swinging K.

Top 4th Inning

3:24 p.m.  3 Out
Cook vs. Cameron
Atkins gloves a bit of a tricky grounder to 3rd and gets the out.

3:24 p.m.  2 Out
Cook vs. McGehee
Hawpe battles the wind but takes in the fly ball to right.  It could get interesting out there in the outfield.

3:21 p.m.  1 Out
Cook vs. Fielder
A fastball inside gets Fielder in a mood before stalking his way back to the dugout.

Bottom 3rd Inning

3:16 p.m.  3 Out
McClung vs. Spillborghs
Goodness....what a mess.  At least the inning ends on a check swing K.

3:13 p.m.  2 Out, Bases Loaded
Colorado 5, Milwaukee 0
Parra vs. Fowler
Again, Parra allows a hitter's count - 3-1 - and with McClung ready to go, another run walked in.  Geeeeez.

3:10 p.m.  2 Out, Bases Loaded
Colorado 4, Milwaukee 0
Parra vs. Cook
After three straight balls, Parra gets it to 3-2, then a walk to the pitcher?  What gives?

3:08 p.m.  2 Out, Bases Loaded
Parra vs. Barmes
HECK of a swingandamiss K on a 2-2 changeup.  Well, maybe he is maturing a bit.

3:05 p.m.  1 Out, Bases Loaded
Parra vs. Hawpe
Good tuneage at Coors Field with the Saturday Night Fever "A Fifth of Beethoven."  Get your disco groove thing on.

An inside pitch either hit Hawpe's hand or the ball.  Which is it?  Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper slomo shows it hit his knuckle.  That stings.

McClung works in the pen while the ump says it's a foul ball.  Bad call, but happy call for the Brew Crew.

CHECK SWING STRIKE THREE!

3:03 p.m.  Bases Loaded
Parra vs. Iannetta
After going 3-0, they go the intentional route.  Smart with no outs.

3:01 p.m.  Runners on 2nd and 3rd
Colorado 3, Milwaukee 0
Parra vs. Atkins
LIner to right in the corner...here comes the blowout.

3:00 p.m.  Runners on 1st and 2nd
Colorado 2, Milwaukee 0
Parra vs. Tulowitzki
In earlier months, he absolutely would blow up and allow huge rallies.  This time it's the same as Tulowitzki gets a single to left.  7-10 in the series.

2:57 p.m.  Runners on 1st and 2nd
Parra vs. Helton
The 408-year veteran super-hitter for Colorado draws a walk.

2:53 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Parra vs. Spillborghs
The victim of a strikeout earlier, Spillborghs slaps one that Escobar dived for, but couldn't get to.

Top 3rd Inning

2:52 p.m.  3 Out
Cook vs. Braun
Slow bouncer to 2nd.  Insanely routine.

2:51 p.m.  2 Out
Cook vs. Gerut
Atkins scoops it up on the infield grass like cheese sauce in a Tostito's scoop chip.  Love those!

2:50 p.m.  1 Out
Cook vs. Lopez
So am I nuts for thinking that there's no way that any game with a team in a playoff race should NOT be sold out in the final weeks.  THOUSANDS of empty seats here.  That's just wrong.

Spillborghs make the catch on a fly ball.

Bottom 2nd Inning

2:47 p.m.  3 Out
Parra vs. Fowler
A powerful liner right to third and McGehee puts his glove in front of his head and takes it.

2:45 p.m.  2 Out, Runner on 1st
Parra vs. Cook

An inside pitch becomes a walk.  He did it all after two out in the first.  Uh oh.

2:44 p.m.  2 Out
Parra vs. Barmes
Swing and a pop-up, and the ball gets blown back toward three in foul territory, but Escobar has no problem.

2:41 p.m.  1 Out
Parra vs. Hawpe

Mr. K gets his 3rd.

Top 2nd Inning

2:37 p.m.  3 Out
Cook vs. Parra
Oh well, never ask a pitcher to explode a team into a big inning.  Fly to left.

2:36 p.m.  2 Out, Bases Loaded
Cook vs. Kendall
A pitch that went toward his head hit him in his shoulder.

2:35 p.m.  2 Out, Runners on 1st and 3rd
Cook vs. Escobar
Base hit to left!  Can Fielder swing around 3rd and get in?  Nope.

2:34 p.m.  2 Out, Runner on 2nd
Cook vs. Cameron
Helton with a pop-up catch - like me hitting it back in T-ball.

2:33 p.m.   1 Out, Runner on 2nd
Cook vs. Mcgehee
A catch and error!  Haupe made the catch, had Fielder doubled off first, but threw it to South America.

2:32 p.m.  Runner on 1st
Cook vs. Fielder
Right up the gut at Cook - revenge for the last one against Parra....not really revenge, but you get the idea.

Bottom 1st Inning

2:29 p.m.  3 Out
Parra vs. Iannetta
Tulowitzki steals third, fly to left, and Braun ends the at bat with a catch of a fly.  Simple and thank goodness.

2:27 p.m.  2 Out, Runners on 1st and 2nd
Colorado 1, Milwaukee 0
Parra vs. Atkins
Broken bat looper into left and Braun can't throw it in fast tnough.

2:24 p.m.  2 Out, Runners on 1st and 2nd
Parra vs. Tulowitzki
Can you say "right down Wisconsin Avenue" on a pitch when you're in Denver?  What would the Denver equivalent be?  Whatever street it is, Parra's dealing at 96 mph.

On a 3-2, Parra had one go right past his glove.  It might have taken his hand off.

2:22 p.m.  2 Out, Runner on 1st
Parra vs. Helton
Three in a row?  Struck out the side?  Nope...that's going to the gap for a single.  Ueck: "that guy can hit.  I don't care who's out there."

2:20 p.m.  2 Out
Parra vs. Spilbourghs
The .248 hitter repeats Fowler's pattern.

2:18 p.m.  1 Out
Parra vs. Fowler
After a 2-2 count, a nice swinging K.

Top 1st Inning

2:13 p.m.
Cook vs. Braun
Uecker: "best way to see if (Corey Hart's) hand is broken is to shake hands with him."  Always good to hear him.  Braun has a bat problem of some sort after his 1-2 count, so he grabs a new one and is constantly warming up his hands.  It's a cold one, comparatively.

Oh well.  K'd.

2:13 p.m.  2 Out
Cook vs. Gerut
Bouncer to 2nd and Tulowitzki grabs it from short.  Simple.

2:10 p.m.  1 Out
Aaron Cook vs. Lopez
Milwaukee tries to avoid a season sweep by the Rockies - and Lopez starts the effort with a bomb that would have been a homer in Miller Park, but a long fly at Coors FIeld.

Pregame

1:34 p.m.
I feel a twinge of sadness in my heart as the October chill comes in and the Brewers' performance has matched the temperature drop this year.  This is the last Brewers blog of 2009 - but we'll be back in 2010.

1:27 p.m.
Manny Parra takes the mound today for his final mound appearance of 2009.  We'll see where he stands after the potential house cleaning this off-season.  We know he and Yovani Gallardo will need lots of help, but I'm encouraged by his last start.
