Daniel Acker Pleads No Contest

By Melissa McCrady

MILWAUKEE - The man known as the "pool predator" is going to prison.

Daniel Acker's deal with prosecutors lets him avoid a trial in exchange for less time behind bars.

Acker accepted a plea deal today in court, agreeing to 15 years behind bars instead of 40.

Though Acker refused to answer questions outside the courtroom, his attorney spoke on his behalf.

"He made a plea to accept responsibility," said Robert Peterson, Acker's attorney.

Acker, 62, was charged with using his position as a swim coach in West Allis to take advantage of young boys.

Under the plea deal, three child enticement charges were dropped in exchange for a no contest plea to the sex assault charges.

This also means victims will be spared from having to publicly tell their stories.

One alleged victim just wants Acker to get help.

"I'd like to see him get rehabilitated and become a normal person who doesn't do the bad things that he had done before," said an alleged victim who asked not to have his name revealed.

Acker's sentencing will come in January.
