Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Killing Son

MONROE, Wis. (AP) -- A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison with no chance of parole for killing one of his twin two-month-old sons in 2007.

Casey Shelton, of Brodhead, was found guilty in January of first-degree reckless homicide for the death of his son, Christopher, on Feb. 28, 2007. He was alone with Christopher and his twin brother, Charles, when he called 911 to request an ambulance because Christopher had stopped breathing.

Shelton said the boy had begun choking while he was being fed, but testimony during a weeklong trial revealed Christopher died of trauma injuries to the brain most likely caused by being shaken.

Green County Circuit Court Judge James Beer sentenced Shelton to the maximum term possible. He also received 10 years of extended supervision.
