Drive-In Murder: Friends Ask Why?
KENOSHA - The question everyone is struggling with here is. Why?
Robert Wilde, 18, was shot and killed Sunday night during a robbery at Shirl's Custard Drive-In at 7943 Sheridan Road.
Wilde was the cook at the popular ice cream stand. But that’s not the only reason why he worked there.
Rob Wilde is being remembered as a fun loving kid who could solve the Rubik’s cube quickly according to his yearbook.
"We are going to miss him very much," said JoAnna Amaya. "He was very much a part of the family a nice guy. I don’t know why any would do this t all."
Amaya’s daughter Cassie dated Rob. Cassie also works at Shirl’s Drive-In and was working Sunday night when Rob was killed.
"We were all at the hospital last night crying, It’s just so tragic," said Amaya.
Asked if her daughter said anything about what happened Amaya said, "No, no she’s just crying away the tears."
Like a lot kids his age Wilde was working her to make some money to go to college. He just graduated from high school and was looking forward to going to a local school in the fall.
Amaya stopped by the crime scene Monday in disbelief.
"It’s actually a great place to work," she said. "I can't believe it actually happened."
Police are searching for two masked suspects who killed Wilde and shot the manager
Police say the suspects entered through a back door as employees were about to close about 9:30 p.m.
The suspects demanded money. One was armed with a gun, the other with a knife.
After the shooting, they grabbed the money and took off on foot.
