Rescued Children's Father: 'Thank You Milwaukee'By The WTMJ News Team"I can't express the gratitude my wife and I have for the city of Milwaukee." James Harper could barely contain his emotion as he praised two off-duty firefighters, a Milwaukee Police lieutenant, and a number of heroic neighbors for risking their own lives to pull his son D.J. and daughter Beverly from a burning car. "I'm sorry, I'm trying to hold it together, but it's my little boy," James said in a news conference at Children's Hospital Tuesday afternoon. "I just want to thank everybody, the citizens of Milwaukee, for helping us." "There are angels all around us."
A spokesman for Childen's Hospital said David is in serious condition with burn injuries to his scalp, face, back, and arms, but he is expected to survive. "There were so many people at the scene [who helped," James added. "I just want to express our gratitude and how grateful we are. Words can't express how the citizens of Milwaukee have helped us so far." The entire incident was caught on video. Earlier Tuesday, the children's grandmother also thanked everyone who helped. "It's a tragedy this happened, but I just feel so grateful that these people, these wonderful people, I'm calling them angels, were there to save my family," said Deborah Jones. "Words can't express my sincere gratitude and my thanks." |
