DA Will Not Investigate Flynn

By Elizabeth Braun, Charles Benson

MILWAUKEE - The scandal surrounding Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn isn't going away quietly. He admitted to having an affair, and now a group of citizens wants the District Attorney to investigate.

It's been two weeks since Chief Flynn admitted and apologized for having an affair with journalist Jessica McBride after she wrote a story about Flynn for Milwaukee Magazine. Both are married. Adultery is technically illegal in Wisconsin and some citizens say if Chief Flynn broke the law, then he should be charged.

Community activist Lamont Harris wants an investigation.

"I think the integrity of the Milwaukee Police Department is at stake here if you have the chief of police out here breaking laws."

Harris and to other citizens met with Milwaukee County DA John Chisholm behind closed doors for 40 minutes Tuesday. Chisholm listened to their concerns but he's not about to launch an investigation.

Harris does have the option of asking for a citizen's John Doe. It's a legal proceeding that could involve an investigation with a special prosecutor. But it's a long shot if Harris decides to play that card.

Harris has also filed complaints against Chief Flynn with the Fire and Police Commission and the City of Milwaukee.
