Chief Flynn Admits AffairBy By the WTMJ News TeamPolice Chief Edward Flynn admits to having an affair. He reportedly had it with Jessica McBride, a prominent local journalist. The chief apologized to the city and his family Thursday. McBride wrote an article about the chief in the May edition of Milwaukee Magazine. McBride, a journalism ethics professor at UWM, is also married. Her husband is former Waukesha County District Attorney Paul Bucher. She was also a talk show host on Newsradio 620 WTMJ. 620WTMJ's Charlie Sykes read an e-mailed letter McBride sent to him and 620WTMJ colleague Jeff Wagner on his show "Midday with Charlie Sykes" which divulged details about their relationship, stating that it happened after her published piece in Milwaukee Magazine. "Please be aware that this started May 1st. Brocach's (a restaurant where Journal Sentinel Writer Dan Bice says was a place where they became involved after an interview there) was a time where they was May 1st, and I can prove it. It was not an interview. The story in the magazine was out for two weeks by then. "I can also verify there was no romantic relationship until the story was out. The story was completed and turned in January 5th. The story was in mailboxes in mid-April." "Bice also cut a line out of the un-authenticated letter he has that stated there were no romantic feelings at the time the story was being written, and that stated the lines he quoted from were from the standpoint of hindsight only." Bice, who broke the story, cites e-mails which he says were purportedly exchanged between Flynn and McBride. "Warm, no not warm, hot memories of beautiful moments...and visuals," one of the e-mails says. "I feel younger today than I did last night." Bice received a statement from the Chief apologizing for the affair which did not mention McBride's name. "I have done my wife and family a great wrong, and I profoundly regret the hurt I have inflicted on them and others affected by my conduct." "I accept the personal and public consequences of my private behavior. I have damaged my public reputation and violated the trust and love of my family." |
