  • Print

Milwaukee police call him a hero, but not everyone agrees.

Taxi driver Anthony Thompson says he fears for his safety after he helped two police officers who had been shot on Milwaukee's south side.

Thompson drives a taxi for American United Taxi Cab.

He was one of the heroes to run to the injured officers when they had been shot.

Ever since the incident, Thompson tells the Journal Sentinel's Jim Stingl he's received a lot of feedback for his actions, both positive and negative.

Thompson says some people in Milwaukee don't like the police, and there's been some chatter about why a black man would help the police.

Thompson is 30 years old and calls himself a grown man with kids, not a street thug like he used to be.

He now says he's a little worried about his safety, unsure if a friend or relative of the suspect may retaliate against him.

He tells Stingl some people have been telling him to get bodyguards.
