MILWAUKEE - A one car accident closed down I-94 in both directions late Wednesday near the Airport Spur.

The driver, a 28-year-old woman from Cudahy, suffered a partially severed right foot and head injuries. She was also trapped in the vehicle until the fire department was able to remove her.

A Flight for Life helicopter landed on the freeway and took the woman to Froedtert Hospital. According to investigators, her injuries are considered serious, but not life threatening.

The Sheriff's Office says alcohol is believed to have contributed to the crash. The driver was arrested for OWI.

The woman was traveling southbound on I-94 at Ramsey Ave. in a blue Dodge Durango, when she lost control and swerved across all three lanes of traffic and struck the cement median barrier wall.

Interstate 94 was closed from 9:27 p.m. until 11:35 p.m.
