Storm Team 4: Tornado Confirmed Near Mukwonago

By Dan O'Donnell

MILWAUKEE - Tornado warnings were issued in Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha Counties Monday afternoon as a powerful storm system moved through southeastern Wisconsin.

A trained spotter reported a funnel cloud near Union Grove, and Doppler radar indicated a second tornado near Muskego.  The National Weather Service confirmed there was a tornado in the vicinity of Mukwonago, although it was a very weak EF0 classification.

The tornado had winds around 65 miles-per-hour and didn't stay on the ground consistently in its roughly 3 mile path of existence.

The Weather Service said it was most likely a rain-wrapped tornado and difficult to see.

The tornado traveled from 1.6 miles west southwest of Mukwonago to 1.5 miles east of Mukwonago. It lasted for only a few minutes.

In Mukwonago, where what's described as the oldest tree in the city was split in half and a swing set was thrown across a nearby backyard as those high winds moved through. Fortunately, though, no one was injured.
