Brett and Deanna Favre. | Photo: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Favre Admits "Sticking it to Ted" with ReturnBy By Jay SorgiHe wouldn't say it publicly for a long time after his first retirement from the NFL, but Brett Favre finally divulged a major motivation to why he wanted to come back with a different team than Green Bay in 2008. "Part of me coming back last year, I have to admit now, was sticking it to Ted (Thompson),'' he told Peter King of Sports Illustrated. He previously told Ed Werder of ESPN during his re-retirement last week that all he heard from the Packers after a 2007 season when Favre helped them achieve a spot in the NFC Championship game was "crickets."
Favre retired from the Packers in March of 2008, un-retired in July while asking for a trade to, presumably, the Minnesota Vikings, then was traded to the New York Jets in 2008. The report says that the Jets chose not to go that route, though in today's conference call, Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum refused to comment on whether that conversation actually happened. "I don't want to get into any specifics. He said he was done playing. We're taking him at his word on that." Under the terms of the trade between the Packers and Jets, if New York trades Favre to the Minnesota Vikings, the Jets would have to give Green Bay draft picks. |
