KENORA, Ontario (AP) -- Canadian authorities say a Wisconsin man has been sentenced to 10 days in jail after wounding a deer with the propellor of a power boat and then shooting the animal. Canadian officials said yesterday 56-year-old Philip Borofka of Marshfield was also ordered to pay $11,000. Conservation officers in Ontario say a hunting party forced a deer from an island into the water last October. They say Borofka shot at the swimming deer, ran over it in the boat and shot it again. Matt Brooks is a conservation officer in Kenora, Ontario. He says Borofka hasn't paid the fine or served his time, so authorities are withholding his powerboat and firearm. Borofka calls the charges "exaggerated" and "absurd." He says he's working with lawyers to figure out his next steps. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
