Photos: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Paul Ryan: Goal of Line-Item Act To "Embarrass The Pork Out of Washington"By By Erik Bilstad and Jay SorgiWASHINGTON - Wisconsin Democratic Senator Russ Feingold and Janesville Republican Congressman Paul Ryan are helping to reintroduce of the Congressional Accountability and Line-item Veto Act. "Our goal is to embarrass the pork out of Washington," said Ryan in a joint conference with Feingold and Arizona Republican Senator John McCain. "By giving the President and the Congress this tool, we can help bring sunshine to this murky process and embarrass pork barrel spending out of these packages." The legislation would target wasteful earmarks, improve congressional accountability, and deter lawmakers form inserting frivolous spending into future bills. "In order to meet the great economic challenges we are facing, we'll need to tighten our belts and work across party lines," said Feingold "This legislation does both. Congress should set an example by passing this legislation which takes a serious step toward curbing wasteful spending."
