13-Year-Old Driver Dies in Crash
DE SOTO, Wis. (AP) -- Vernon County sheriff's deputies say the driver was killed after crashing his car near De Soto was just 13 years old.
Authorities say Gatlin Collins was driving the car on a road near his hometown when he lost control and hit a tree Saturday afternoon.
Sheriff Gene Cary says the vehicle hit the tree so hard deputies could hardly tell what kind of car it was. The boy was the only one in the vehicle.
The eighth-grader played football at De Soto Middle School and played tuba in the band.
