Parents Urged to Check Phones After 'Sexting' ScandalBy Elizabeth BraunParents are being urged to check their children's cell phones after a teenager sent around nude photos of his ex. Dozens of teens could face child pornography charges after police say the 16 year old emailed the pictures of the 14 year old girl to friends. Police warn that anyone who passes the picture on could face charges as well. "If they choose to forward it on send it on or download it to their own computer they have just committed a felony crime," says Captain Mark Stigler, "They are subjecting themselves to us coming after them." Child psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Derenne says teenagers don't always think before they act. "I think a part of it is that they are just not able to fully appreciate the future and the fact that the decisions they make now have consequences," says Derenne. Waukesha police say they want to make an example of the 16 year old boy who sent the photos in the first place. |
