Students Shocked at Facebook Scheme

By Elizabeth Braun

News reports about Anthony Stancl are a shock to students at New Berlin Eisenhower. Students say rumors had already been spreading that some may have been coerced into sending him nude photos.

Student Melanie Moranski says the rumors began shortly after a bomb threat in November. Moranski says she knows classmates who were victims of scheme, but didn't know how far it went.

"I think that if they know that they were specifically involved and did send their pictures that they're going to be kind of, you know, hurt to see that this is someone they went to school with so long," said Moranski.

Students who knew Stancl, like Abe Nugent, are just as shocked. They say they never would have believed Stancl was capable of the crimes he's charged with.

"I was in a class with him and it was just weird. I never expected it from him; especially since he just seemed like an intellectual kind of guy."

Students say it's not unheard of for teens to use social networking websites like Facebook to obtain embarrassing photos; but they say this takes things to a new level.
