Late-Nite Call Saves Family
DE SOTO, Wis. (AP) -- A sharp-eyed man in western Wisconsin may have saved his brother's family with an urgent phone call.
Kevin Walleser saw the bright light of a fire coming from his brother's house a quarter-mile away in rural De Soto early Friday morning.
He called to the house just after midnight, waking his brother Buck, his wife and their teenage son.
Buck Walleser's sister, Sue Brudos, says without the phone call the three wouldn't have gotten out alive. She says the family dressed quickly and got out of the house just in time to see the entire roof in flames.
Wheatland Fire Chief Kevin Marx says the fire began in the attic. He says the cause is unknown but was probably electrical in origin.
Marx says the house has been destroyed.
