MKE Sheriff's Deputy Injured in Freeway Crash

A Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy was injured by an elderly driver hitting the deputy's squad car with his vehicle on a Milwaukee freeway.

The deputy's elbow was injured, and he was taken to Froedert Hospital. His injuries are said to be minor.

The incident happened at about 5:20 a.m. on the ramp from Southbound U.S. 45 to I-94 Westbound in the Zoo Interchange.

A statement says the deputy, who has been on the force for 18 years, was in his squad car behind a disabled vehicle in the right distress lane.

The elderly driver, who is 79, was driving in the same distress lane when he struck the deputy's vehicle. The Fire Department served the driver and he was released from the scene.

in the release, Sheriff's officials remind drivers that it's the law move over or slow down for stopped emergency vehicles.
