(AP) -- A man facing a disorderly conduct charge in a domestic abuse case shot his wife to death and killed himself Friday before deputies at the scene could stop him. "There wasn't time to do anything," Fond du Lac County Sheriff Mick Fink said, because as soon as the man came out of the town of Eldorado residence, he started shooting. The deputies never fired their weapons, Fink said. The dead were identified as 48-year-old Kurt Hinkley and his 42-year-old wife Julie Hinkley. The sheriff said a text message from the woman Friday morning alerted authorities to trouble at the home. A deputy arrived about 10 minutes later and made contact with the man, who indicated he was not going to let the woman out of the house. Fink says the SWAT team was called, but then Hinkley came out and shot his wife and himself. A 3-year-old girl at the home didn't witness the shooting and wasn't injured, Fink said. She was placed in protective custody. An older child was in school. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
