Temp Changes Bring More Pothole Problems

By By Jay Olstad with Jay Sorgi

With the temperatures going up, then down, more potholes are surfacing on Milwaukee's streets.

One man hit a big pothole and wanted to warn others before they did the same thing.

"This a pretty big pot hole," said Ron Bednar.

He was driving on the 1600 block of East Howard Avenue on Monday when he saw a moon-like crater sticking out of the ground.

"I swerved after the car in front of me swerved, and it hit the back of my van," said Bednar.

The pothole he described is six inches deep.

Ron decided to move the heavy pieces himself after he called Milwaukee's Department of Public Works, but no one came out to fix it.

"Frustrating, very frustrating."

The DPW believes Ron may have called the wrong number because they don't have any record of it.

The department came out after TODAY'S TMJ4 called them and filled in the pot hole.

Still, it's an empty feeling for Ron who wonders how much this peculiar pot hole will cost him.

"It wouldn't move, and it was like the back of my van exploded," said Bednar.

If you see an icy sidewalk or pothole in the city, the DPW would like you to call 286-CITY to report the problem.
