The Milwaukee Yacht Club says someone has pirated its championship trophy - a $49,000 championship trophy.

"All silver," as Yacht Club General Manager Alan Johnston describes the McNulty Trophy, awarded since 1947.

"It's probably one of the oldest regattas in the Midwest area, and maybe the country."

Two weeks ago, the Yacht Club held a banquet where it had the trophy on display.

"Somebody obviously must have taken it home that evening, and we're really trying to get trophy back to its rightful home here in our trophy case," states Johnston.

"We brought it to the attention of our members, our guests, and everybody who as in attendance that evening, and we were hoping this would come back in a rightful fashion that way."

Just as a frame of reference, that $49,000 appraisal value is reportedly close to twice that of the Vince Lombardi Trophy for this year's Super Bowl.

"That was the appraisal price for the trophy, just because of this history behind, and because the content is silver."
