Carbon Monoxide in Your House?

By Tim Lethlean

Click here to listen to Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Tim Lethlean report on how to handle the silent menace of carbon monoxide.

It's invisible, can kill you, and could be in your own house right now. It's carbon monoxide gas, a menace that can crop up in the winter months when doors and windows are all closed up.

Many area fire departments, like Sturtevant, are willing to come out and test your house for the poisonous gas.

Mike Mansell from the S.F.D. says they'll do their best to find the cause.

"We don't always find the exact cause," states Mansell.

"We'll check your appliances, we'll check everything, but we don't always find the exact origin."

Carbon monoxide usually comes from poorly maintained furnaces and blocked dryer vents.  A build up of the toxin can cause dizziness and nausea.

If you suspect you might have symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, open a window, and head to the nearest hospital.
