Sheriff's deputies go door-to-door on trick-or-treat to make sure they don't have children approaching their house. | Photo: Today's TMJ4 Sex Offenders Stopped from Trick-Or-Treat ActivitiesBy Tim Lethlean and Jay SorgiPlenty of Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies were going door-to-door on Sunday, but they weren't looking for candy. "Nobody has been knocking on your door besides us today?" asked a parole officer to a convicted sex offender. That offender responded, "no, no." Those deputies, along with parole officers, were checking up on registered sex offenders during trick-or-treat hours. There are strict regulations that prohibit sex offenders from participating in trick-or-treat in any way. "They shouldn't have any lights on, they shouldn't have any candy, they shouldn't be promoting trick or treating at their residence because that's being non-compliant," said Sheriff's Detective Paul Thompson. In fact, those offenders aren't even allowed to answer their door during the trick-or-treat hours set by the community. Deputies say most sex offenders they checked in on were following the rules, only a few were taken into custody for disobeying. |
