Construction Workers Trade Normal Hard Hats for Good Cause

By Jon Byman

You may notice something just a little strange at some construction sites around southeast Wisconsin this week. Some construction workers will be sporting hard hats that may look like the workers are just moments away from having a large Milwaukee's Best can dropped on them. While it may look a bit strange, it's all for a good cause.

This week, about 300 CG Schmidt construction workers will trade their usual hard hats for pink ones. The company's Stephanie Van Haag admits it wasn't the best received idea the company's ever had, "it did take a little coaxing." It also didn't hurt that they sent letters to the guys wives... who were also persuasive.

But it is for a good cause. The workers are raising awareness about breast cancer during this month, which is breast cancer awareness month. It's all a build up to a fundraiser later in the week at the Elaine Erickson Gallery in Milwaukee.

Van Haag says while the company is helping to raise money for the cause, the real goal of the pick hard hats is just simply to raise awareness. She says the best thing people can take away is to remember to get screened for breast cancer.
