Car Crash in Greenfield Kills Teen After Police Chase
A 19-year-old is dead after a bad crash that followed a short police chase in Greenfield.
Police say the whole incident started near 87th and Bottsford. They got a call about a group of people fighting.
When an officer got to the scene, the car that Christopher Crouthers was driving took off at a high rate of speed. The officer followed down the street.
The car police was chasing then lost control and smashed into a tree at 78th and Allerton.
Crouthers died at the scene.
Crouthers' friend, Michael Mahnick, thinks he may have been drinking, and that may be why he ran.
"He was scared, and there was a little drinking going on," said Mahnick. "He had big plans. He wanted to go in the Navy, so he didn't want an underage ticket."
Crouthers' family says it doesn't buy the story that he simply lost control, and they want an independent investigation. Greenfield Police say that their police officers weren't near the car when it crashed.

Crouthers was a Greenfield High School Student. He was a member of the basketball team.
Relatives say he had a baby on the way.
