From victim to defendant. Prosecutors have charged a woman with making up a story that she was raped on Milwaukee's East Side.
The story caused panic in the generally safe area of the city. Now, Colleen Contrino has told investigators that she made the story up for attention and because she felt guilty about cheating on her fiancee.
Prosecutors have charged Contrino with a misdemeanor count of obstructing an officer.
According to the criminal complaint, police conducted an investigation in which they canvassed the neighborhood, talking to more than 20 people. Investigators reviewed video surveillance in the area and even pulled cell phone records.
Contrino admitted that she made up a detailed description about a suspect by using details she'd seen on TV or the newspaper. She told investigators that she thought a black male was stereotypical of a rapist.
