Bald Eagle Dies in Mequon

By Kyle Dlabay and Jay Sorgi

A bald eagle that nested is Mequon has died.

It was the first time since 1872 that bald eagles made their home in this part of the state.

Now, the bird's partner will now have to find a new mate.

Owen Boyle is a DNR ecologist and isn't sure what the cause of death is.

"There are no obvious external signs of injury," said Boyle.

"The remaining bird will have to find a new mate now, and time will tell if they'll be back here in Mequon nesting again."

The person who found the dead bird saw the other bald eagle flying above the trees.
