Midwest Pilots Protest, Claim Service Will Suffer

By Elizabeth Braun and Jay Sorgi

Midwest Airlines employees claim that with changes coming in the airline, the "best care in the air" won't be that anymore.

Pilots and flight attendants marched in protest of the airline's latest cost-cutting measure, involving Midwest outsourcing planes and workers from Republic Airlines and cutting more than 1,500 Midwest jobs.

Greg Uselmann, with the union representing Midwest Airlines pilots, says those new planes will be smaller, and people will notice...

"Midwest is going to be down to about 360 of the wide leather seats, and 2,000 basically coach seats," said Uselmann.

"The passenger is going to see a big difference in what kind of service they're going to receive."

Midwest representatives say there won't be any changes in service.

"We'll still have the continuous high level of service that our customers have come to expect," said Midwest Airlines spokesman Mike Brophy.

"Our hub is here. We fly more flights out of Milwaukee than anyone else."

The company also insists Midwest pilots will be brought back within a year.

The Republic Airlines outsourcing begins October 1st.
