Motorcyclist Dead, Woman Under Arrest in Crash

By Jon Byman

Milwaukee Police suspect a 61-year-old woman from the city was driving drunk when she crossed into an oncoming lane of traffic and killed a man on a motorcycle this afternoon.

The crash happened at Humbolt and North Avenue in the Riverwest Neighborhood.

Milwaukee Police Sergeant Mark Stanmeyer says the woman was going south on Humbolt and turned west on North.  But police say she made a very wide turn all the way across the eastbound lanes.  She went so far that she hit the curb on the eastbound side of the road.

Stanmeyer says when the woman tried to correct the turn, she sideswiped the biker, who was coming east on North.

The biker was riding with several other people.  Police have identified him as 55-year-old Michael Fleming of Michigan.

That biker was not wearing a helmet.
