Harley 105th: Idol Finalist Honeymoons by Playing H-D Festival

By Jay Sorgi

An American Idol finalist is playing the Harley 105th Celebration in Milwaukee - while celebrating the first few days after getting married.

"There ain't no better way to spend your honeymoon, I guess," said Amanda Overmyer, the self-proclaimed biker-chick nurse from Indiana with the raspy and powerful voice.

Overmyer showed off her roadhouse singing skills in front of a national audience on Idol.

This weekend, she's showing it off in front of tens of thousands of people in a group of performances connected with the celebration of the motorcycle she rides, while on her honeymoon with new husband Casey Taylor and their family, friends and bandmates.

"I'm right in my element playing these biker rallies and being around these bikers," states Overmyer.

"My band and I are having a great time. We're really enjoying it.

"This is exactly where I want to be playing, exactly what I want to be doing.

"I've always been a rock singer, and I've always rode a Harley. So going on the show (American Idol) and going on TV, that wasn't anything special to me, unique to me.

"They were freaking out about it and saying, 'let's get it on camera!' So now it's like I became the 'Harley-riding nurse.' "

Make That The Harley-Riding Married Nurse

The 105th happens to be happens to be on the weekend after she got married to Taylor.

Overmyer states the wedding was too much the traditional one, with the white dresses and formalities, until the music started and she came down the aisle.

"The one thing that was like totally me was Justin's (her guitarist) rendition of 'Here Comes the Bride.' He played it like Hendrix style, like the National Anthem, you know? It was so good!"

The came the honeymoon which started with her singing the national anthem at a Colts preseason game, and now leads to her, her new husband and her band renting a luxury condo in Milwaukee for five days.

"This is our honeymoon, in a house full of musicians," she admits with a bit of surprise in her eyes.

And what better way to spend her first days as a married woman than with 100,000+ friends, all who ride the same vehicle.

Note: Amanda Overmyer will perform Friday afternoon at noon at the Miller Oasis at the Summerfest Grounds, and at the Harley-Davidson Roadhouse at 3:00 p.m. on the grounds.
