WALWORTH COUNTY -- The body of a deceased man was found by a hiker in the Kettle Moraine Forest Sunday afternoon, the Walworth County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

The body was found off of the Yellow Trail at 3:30 p.m. in a heavily wooded area well off of the marked trail.

The hiker said he had been parked in the parking lot on Esterly Road.

Officials are awaiting dental records to make a positive identification on the body. However, they said personal items at the scene lead investigators to believe that it is the body of Russ Delorme, of Elkhorn, who was reported missing on Aug. 1.

An autopsy performed on Monday determined the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Prior to this discovery, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office conducted eight separate searches involving search parties on foot, horseback and on ATVs.
