Governor Adds Science Advisor

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- If Gov. Jim Doyle ever has a tough science question, he doesn't have to go far for the answer.

Doyle has named University of Wisconsin professor James Dahlberg as his science adviser. Doyle signed an executive order Wednesday creating the unpaid position.

The position is designed to keep the governor and administration informed on ongoing scientific research and to serve as a liaison to the scientific research community.

Doyle says Dahlberg will help the state foster an encouraging scientific environment.

Dahlberg has been a UW faculty member since 1969 and currently works as a professor of biomolecular chemistry. He also is co-founder of biotechnology company Third Wave Technologies.
