New Storms = New Flooding?

By Jay Sorgi

It seems that just because we're no longer in June doesn't mean we're out of the woods for flooding in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Especially with the heavy rains of Thursday night, and more coming tonight going into Saturday morning.

"It may not be widespread one-to-two inch rainfall that covers all of the area, but some places will, and so that has the potential to bring some places up to three, four, maybe more inches of rain from what happened last night and what happens tonight," says WTMJ Weather Plus Storm Team Meterologist Craig Koplien.

"At the very least, there is some concern of minor flooding tonight, tomorrow morning, and in some cases near the still-high rivers and streams, perhaps some major flooding again."

We got a good chunk of that rain from Thursday night storms that rolled through the area.

"Some places overnight picked up an inch of rain, in some cases over two, so there were some real heavy storms last night," states Koplien.

"It looks like, though there may be some isolated areas that get some heavy rain at times, most of the real heavy stuff is in process of tapering off."

For the most part, Southeastern Wisconsin is out of the woods for Friday's daylight hours.

"We still have a few scattered showers and thunderstorms around and they will be scattered throughout the area for a few more hours this morning, but then we're going to become mostly sunny and it will get warm and humid for the afternoon," says Koplien.

Then, watch out. The wet stuff that comes could produce more flooding.

"We've got another round of storms, however, coming for tonight, and especially late tonight beginning around or after midnight," Craig predicts. "Those could be heavy again.

"I think that the storms that come in after midnight tonight, and they'll probably linger until tomorrow morning, too, in at least some isolated cases, we could be looking at over an inch of rain, and in some cases, over two."
