Police Catch Robber Fleeing in Only His Underwear

By Jon Byman

A 37-year-old man from Hartford made it pretty easy for police to solve his crime.  The man is accused of robbing a BP gas station at 529 W. Sumner Street in Hartford.  He stole cash and some cigarettes.

According to police, Hartford's Fire Chief saw a man riding a bicycle, wearing only his underwear shortly after the robbery.  Hartford police caught up with the man.  While talking to him, they noticed he had a large amount of cash stashed in his underwear.  In addition, he had an unopened pack of cigarettes, that just happened to be the same brand of a pack of cigarettes that was taken during the robbery.

Police looked around the area more and found clothes and a gun that matched the clothes and gun the robber used.  Police looked at security tapes and identified the man on the bike as the robber and matched the clothes he was wearing to the ones they found.

The 37-year-old then told police that he had been robbed by someone who looked a lot like him and just happened to be wearing the same clothes.  He could not explain why the robber would have left him with a lot of cash.
